by Giuseppe Verdi

With its lavish villas surrounded by sprawling shanty towns and its omnipresence of corruption, violence and sensuality, the city of Rio de Janeiro proved a fitting premise for Rigoletto. As the druglord’s right hand who hosts decadent parties in his Niemeyer-inspired mansion, he leads a double life as a loving father of his daughter Gilda, tucked away in his modest favela house. But then, a curse by a taunted shaman cooks up a storm over the hills of Rio.
